Strider's Console Gaming
When it comes to console gaming, I am more of a "Retro gamer". I used to be a hardcore console gamer, spending far more time behind a controller than a keyboard. I have owned every major game system since the Atari 2600, and even a few not so well known, all the way through the PS2. I simply don't do enough console gaming anymore to spend the money on a PS3 or 360. In fact, my poor PS2 gets less game time than the SuperNES and NES. =P I have also started collecting the "Plug & Play" consoles, you know, the joysticks and pads that have the games built in. So here are my favorite console games and a list of the games I currently play the most. Don't forget to checkout the JEmu2! It lets you play many classic arcade hits as well as games for the Sega master System, MSX, ZX Spectrum, and more via your Java Virtual Machine! No install necessary, just click the image and play! You can also play some great arcade classics right in your browser! You can also stop by my "Strider's NES Page" and check out what featured NES game you can play!

Life not worth living unless you play this game!
Great game to waste many hours of your life on!
Good game that deserves a place in your collection!
Good game worth playing, but don't have much replay value!
Final Fantasy Series
The Final Fantasy Series of games is by far one of the best RPG's ever made for consoles. From the first game on the NES to the latest for the PS2, the series boasts some of the greatest game play, storylines, and concepts of any RPG series. My all time favorite FF game was Final Fantasy 7 for the Playstation. I simply could not put the controller down. I ended up playing through that game a few times, just to make sure I did not miss a thing. It was ported to the PC, however, the game was never designed to be played on a PC. The controls were cumbersome and there were no graphic improvements made to the game. It was almost an exact port. It also spawned a great CG Animated Movie that took place after the events in the game, "Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children". This film is one of the best CG films I have ever seen and is a MUST for any fan of the series!

Castlevania Series
Of all the games I have played in my life, the Castlevania's have got to be some of the most fun and addicting. The first game in the series I actually played was "Castlevania 2: Simons Quest". I became an instant fan. I went back and played the original game and its sequels. The Castlevania franchise is still going strong today on the PS2. My favorite incarnations of the game are Castlevania 2 Simons Quest on the NES, Super Castlevania 4 on the SNES, and Castlevania Symphony of the Night on the Playstation. One of the best and hardest to find Castlevania's is the TurboGrafx 16 (aka PC Engine) CD version of Dracula X Rondo of Blood. The game was also released on the Super NES as just "Dracula X" but was no where near as good as the TG16-CD version! Its even difficult to locate on the web. If you do happen to find it, in any form, consider yourself lucky. The original as well as copies play just fine on the Magic Engine emulator for the PC Engine.

Dragon Warrior Series
The Dragon Warrior games ("Dragon Quest" outside the USA) were some of the best RPG's I have ever played. To this day, they are quite popular among serious RPG gamers. Like the Final Fantasy games, they possessed a great storyline, gameplay, and were just fun to play. If you have never played them, you are missing one of the greatest RPG adventure games ever made. The series carried on in Japan long after Dragon Warrior 4, the final release for the NES in the states. Dragon Quest 5 and 6 were both Super Famicom titles and Dragon Warrior 7 was not released in the USA until the Playstation came along. However, you can now get a remake of Dragon Warrior 5 on the PS2. Dragon Quest 6 remains unreleased in the USA. This may soon change though in July 2007, Square Enix announced a series of remakes of Dragon Quest IV, V and VI for the Nintendo DS is in the works. Finding the original NES version may be very difficult. You me be forced to look them up online in the form of console ROMs.

Contra Series
Contra was one of the those games that gave me hours of enjoyment, even though the original game was far too short. For me, it had a lot of replay value. I cant even begin to count how many times I played through the game. With each new game in the series, they just kept getting better.  With 10 titles on the market, from the NES to Neo Contra on the PS2, its a must for any run and gun game fan! This game represents true arcade game play and style. In fact, the original arcade version of the game has been re-released by Konami in the form of the "Konami Arcade Collection" plug and play USB controller for your PC (yeah, I own it =P). If you looking for any other versions of the game, ROMS are your best bet.

Mega Man Series
I am not sure where to start on the Mega Man games. The original NES version was state of the art for its time. With each new addition to the series, Capcom was able to push the limits of the consoles they were released on, especially the NES. The graphics were top notch, the game play and stories were great. I don't know many serious old school gamers who have not played at least one of these games. With titles on the NES through the PS2, these games are still easy to find and enjoy!
